Duct Sealing

Having ducts that are unsealed, or poorly sealed, doesn’t mean you have a poorly installed or inferior duct system. Codes have changed over time as building science has progressed and energy costs have risen. As recently as the early 1990’s, local codes did not require sealing of metal boots to the subflooring or ceiling, nor did they require any other sealing of metal duct connections. Flexible duct was considered sealed with just a plastic tie strap securing it to the metal ring of a collar or boot. Today’s code requirements are more stringent, and we adhere to EnergyStar guidelines for duct sealing that go even further. Having us seal the ducts in your home, if necessary, is a smart move. Geothermal Heat Pumps

By far, the most efficient way to heat and cool your home is with a geothermal heat pump system. These systems use the energy trapped in the earth’s crust to keep your home comfortable. As a byproduct of your heating and air conditioning, a geothermal heat pump can provide as much as 50% of the energy you need for your domestic water heating. There is a Federal Income Tax Credit available that will reimburse you 30% of the cost of having a geothermal system installed for your home until the end of 2016, and the State of North Carolina is currently allowing an additional Income Tax Credit of 35% (up to $8,400.00). With a possible credit for up to 65% of the cost of installing a geothermal heat pump, there has never been a better time to go this green.
